Environment and data center
Proactive management of the physical data center environment, Disaster Prevention and OT monitoring of plants.
A sensor network linked to ICT services
Environmental Monitoring collects data from the Sensor Probes placed in technical rooms, rack aisles and power distribution points. Each measurement is compared with thresholds defined according to the equipment specifications, the location of the sensors and acceptable operating conditions.
The data is displayed on charts and maps and kept as a history that helps to spot drifts. IT and the physical environment thus live in the same monitoring model.
What the sensors watch over
| Area | Checks and evidence |
|---|---|
| Climate | Temperature, hot spots, humidity and air conditioning conditions. |
| Power | Mains presence, electrical variations, imbalances and UPS state. |
| Incident prevention | Smoke, water on the floor and possible flooding. |
| Physical security | Room and rack door contacts, video surveillance and motion detection. |
| Business continuity | Environmental states and anomalies that can be correlated with data center conditions. |
Notification, escalation and, where planned, corrective action
When thresholds are exceeded, the Core generates notifications addressed to the on-call groups and applies escalation. In suitably integrated scenarios the system can launch preconfigured corrective actions and record video when motion detection is triggered.
The intervention depends on the controllable devices and on the rules that have been set.
- Switching on fans or auxiliary air conditioning
- Starting pumps when there is water on the floor
- Video recording on motion detection
- Notifications to on-call groups with escalation
Disaster Prevention: prevention and analytical capability
The combination of thresholds, history, graphical representation and automated actions makes it possible to detect early the conditions that could degrade services. Temperature and consumption curves also help to assess the sizing of cooling, power supplies and the capacity of the technical room.
Uninterruptible power supplies and energy multimeters on the electrical panel enter the same state model as servers and network devices.
OT monitoring of industrial plants and systems
Beyond the data center, Sentinet³ brings OT plants into the same console, including remote plants spread across the territory, thanks to its compatibility with the protocols and systems of the industrial world.
- Modbus
- Fieldbus
- OPC
- SCADA
The OT subsystem of the architecture collects data without agents and integrates it into the Core state model: thresholds, notifications, maps and history apply to a remote station just as they do to a server.
Abnormal temperature in the equipment room
A sensor detects a rapid rise in temperature in a data center aisle. The environmental map locates the hot spot, the alarm reaches the technical staff and an automation can start an auxiliary cooling device. Historical charts make it possible to verify that the values return within the defined range.
