WebSphere Monitoring

Continuous, detailed monitoring of the WebSphere environment: transactions, servlets, JDBC connections, JVM and Enterprise JavaBeans in a single package of checks.

Resources under control, performance at its best

Every system depends on resources that affect its performance: when resources run short, performance drops. Keeping a WebSphere environment at peak performance therefore requires continuous and detailed monitoring.

With the Sentinet³ WebSphere Pattern, every administrator can check whether the server is up and see its load. The Pattern describes the behaviour of the server’s various components and monitors the performance and health of the J2EE and Java applications running on it: global transactions, servlets, Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB), JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) connections and JVM.

What it checks

The Pattern’s checks

The Pattern includes 22 checks. Each has configurable thresholds and generates a notification when values exceed them.

Transactions

CheckWhat it verifies
ActiveCountGlobal transactions active at the same time
CommittedCountTotal global transactions completed
RolledBackCountTotal global transactions rolled back

Servlet

CheckWhat it verifies
LiveCountSessions stored in the cache
PoolSizeAverage number of threads
TimeSinceLastActivatedTime elapsed between two work sessions

JDBC

CheckWhat it verifies
FreePoolSizeAvailable connections
PoolSizeConnection pool size
PercentUsedPercentage of connections currently in use
WaitTimeWait time for a connection
CreateCountTotal connections created
CloseCountTotal connections closed
WaitingThreadCountThreads waiting for a connection
UseTimeTime a connection is in use

JVM

CheckWhat it verifies
CpuUsagePercentage of CPU used since the last query
HeapSizeMemory available to the JVM
UsedMemoryMemory used by the JVM

EJB

CheckWhat it verifies
CreateCountEnterprise JavaBeans created
RemoveCountRemoved beans
PassiveCountBeans removed from the cache
MethodCallCountTotal method calls
MethodResponseTimeAverage response time
